Healthy Food to Boost Your Creativity

Healthy Food to Boost Your Creativity

Many of us work from home. As perfect as it may sound to those who have to get up and go to their office every morning, it can be a double-edged sword. If you dont live alone, you are constantly disturbed by your loved-ones. If you live alone, you have your peace and quiet, but you miss out on all the office fun. You have your food at disposal, but you dont really have time to prepare healthy meals.

When youre stuck and cant figure out your next step for a project youre working on, you reach for the nearest snack to keep your hands active and find some tasty inspiration. But after a while, you start noticing that you are not getting any quicker, and your scale starts showing numbers you hadnt seen before.

Luckily, it doesnt have to be that way. There is food that is simple, healthy and that also inspires us. First, lets ask ourselves: What kind of food makes us creative? Perhaps we can follow the example of some great artists. Michelangelo was content with a little bread and wine while he worked. Sometimes he would forget about eating altogether. Stephen King likes to eat a slice of cheesecake before writing. Poe, Hemingway and other creative geniuses relied on liquid luck for inspiration. However, this only inspires you for a moment and initiates the development of unhealthy habits.

If you're looking for a good example when it comes to artists' eating habits, look up to Picasso, who knew and understood the importance of feeding your brain properly. He was prescribed a diet of fish and spinach, giving him a boost in abstract thinking. If you want to reach the peak of your creative powers, you should take a similar approach and feed your brain properly. Here you will find some suggestions on healthy snacks and habits that can be just as simple and satisfying as the unhealthy ones.

What to Look For In Food

There are certain nutrients and benefits you should especially look for in food: complex carbs, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants.

Complex carbs provide the body with energy immediately while giving the brain a steady stream of glucose throughout the day. They also help with digestion and metabolism. You can find them in vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, fruits, nuts, and seeds.

Essential fatty acids help the brain process and understand information. The two primary EFAs are known as linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linoleic acid (omega-3). These essential fatty acids are necessary for crucial processes such as proper development and functioning of the brain and nervous system, as well as the transport and breakdown of cholesterol. Sources of EFAs include flax seeds, walnuts, dark green veggies, and grains.

Antioxidants keep your brain cells healthy (as well as all the other cells) and boost your immunity. These powerful substances mostly come from fresh fruits and vegetables we eat.

Meal Plan for a Creative Day

Considering that you want to boost your creativity and energy, there's probably an ideal routine for you to eat, one that allows you to reach your creative peak and work effectively. Here is an idea on how to incorporate the above-mentioned ingredients into your meals throughout the day.

When you wake up, have a glass of water. Water has been proven to help you think faster and be more focused. It gives the brain electrical energy for all functions and processes.

Make yourself an energy-boosting breakfast. Oatmeal is a classic; it is very versatile and can be prepared and consumed in many ways. You can make oatmeal with chia seeds, or add some berries some to bring some fruit to the mix. You also can add nuts, coconut oil, whatever you choose.

If you cant function without coffee, enjoy it guilt-free. Caffeine acts as a stimulant and it will help you get your engines started and think quicker. Besides antioxidants, coffee contains important nutrients, such as Riboflavin, Potassium, and Magnesium. Also, caffeine boosts the metabolic rate, helping you lose fat.

If you need an immediate energy boost before lunch, you can snack on some dark chocolate, fresh berries, or walnuts. Whole grain bread is also a great choice for a quick snack. You can just spread some nut butter on a slice and enjoy.

The best choice for lunch is fish, rich in essential fatty acids. When properly prepared baked or broiled it has great nutritional value. Dont fry it and avoid farmed fish, get some wild salmon or mackerel instead. Have some brown rice on the side and make a refreshing salad.

When you notice youre becoming slower, it is time for another dose of caffeine. This time you should opt for green tea it also keeps us awake, makes us smarter, but doesnt have all the side-effects of coffee. You wont become jittery and have problems falling asleep; you will get a more stable energy. It will make you think quicker, but also improve your mood.

If you are still working in the evening, smoothies are a fantastic choice for dinner. Who doesn't love a nice blended drink which can have the nutritional power of a good meal? There are tons of smoothie recipes available, and most of them include fruits and other creativity-boosting ingredients that can benefit your brain and overall health.

Thoughts for a Good Night

When you feel like you need a change, try waking up your creativity by coming up with your own snacks and effectively feed your brain. Dont feel like you simply must eat only healthy food all the time. It is ok to relax sometimes, have a drink or a cookie every now and then. Just dont make a habit out of it. Take care of your body and mind and your life and work will be very creative and fulfilling.

Growing and Cloning Great Looking Plants Through Aeroponics

Growing and Cloning Great Looking Plants Through Aeroponics

Take heart my fellow hobbyist gardeners. Just the colder winter months are soon upon us doesn't mean we can't continue to grow vibrant, healthy plants indoors. One method I plan on trying out this winter season is aeroponics. Surprisingly, an aeroponics system doesn't need a large amount of space nor potting soil to see luscious results.

Aeroponics is a way of growing plants indoors using air or mist instead of a soil environment. The basic principle is to grow plants in a closed or semi-closed environment. Aeroponics works by spraying the roots of the plants with a nutrient rich solution. The growing environment is kept free from pests and disease so your plants can grow healthier and quicker than normal plants grown outside.

Growing with aeroponics is not as difficult as it may sound and its benefits far outweigh the potential drawbacks. Most plant can be grown using aeroponics. Vegetables using an aeroponic cloner are a great example of this being true. The plants grow faster, with more flowers and fruit produced.

Plant cloning has been known and practiced for centuries. The cloning of plants, through aeroponic prorogation for example, allows gardeners to replicate a genetically identical plant from the parent plant. The cloned plant will hold the exact same characteristics as the original. Everything from growth habit, disease resistance, fruit shape, flower color and yield potential will be exactly the same.

Plant cloning is not a new concept. The process of aeroponic cloning is basically the exact same thing. Only in aeroponic propagation, the cultivation of sibling or cloned plants is done using an aeroponic system instead of the more traditional soil-potting.

If aeronponic propgation sounds like something you may be interested for your home garden. Here are some basic, step-by-step guides to starting your own aeroponic cloning operation:

- Select a healthy branch from the parent plant with several clusters of leaves.
- Cut off a piece of the branch leaving at least 2 leaf nodes intact.
- Remove the largest few leaves as they can be hard for a rootless plant to maintain in the early stages.
- Then remove all branches and leaves apart from the top 2 sets. Make sure they are within close proximity to the aeroponic fogger and aeroponic mister.
- You are now well on your way to procuring your first crop of cloned plants.

The only drawback to growing and cloning plants with aeroponics is that everything needs to be kept extremely clean. These systems are a continually moist environment, making them very susceptible to bacteria growth. You also need the money up front to pay for an aeroponic cloner, aeroponic fogger, and aeroponic mister.

So if you are looking for another alternative for growing plants this winter, think about growing your plants with an aeroponic cloner. This method works great for growing plants indoors. Aeroponics cloning yields healthier, more abundant growth.

There are a number of vitamins and minerals we need on a daily basis to keep us healthy. Strictly speaking we should be able to get all we need from nature, but when you see those irrsistable bottles and jars of 'extra vitamin supplements, it's almost criminal not to give them a try. However, it seems that a) most of them get left in the back of a cupboard or b) we didn't actually need them in the first place. Sometimes both a and b apply!

There are nine main vitamins we can find in everyday food crops and all of them can be grown at home. Vitamins D and B12 are absorbed through sunlight, and in meat and dairy products, so unless you are keeping your own hens, some vitamins will have to be 'bought' in - although that still doesn't mean hitting the pill bottles... buy organic fresh produce as far as possible and grow the rest of the vitamins you and your family need:

Vitamin C:

Probably the most talked about vitamin, but we often cook out a lot of the goodness from vegetables, apart from tomatoes. They are one of the rare foods that hold their vitamin C during cooking, so grow lots! Other garden produce high in vitamin C includes blackcurrants, peppers and strawberries. Peppers need to be planted every year, but strawberries and blackcurrants need a permanent patch.

Vitamin A:

Well, yes apparently carrots really do help you see in the dark! One medium carrot can provide all the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A, which helps vision, and also acts as an antioxidant in the body to help fight off free radicals. Pumpkin is another good source of vitamin A, as well as winter kale, so remember to plant some before the summer's out. Fresh green veg in the winter will help ward off colds and flu.

Vitamin B1:

Vitamin B1 converts carbs and fats into energy so for a boost of daily energy, keep up with the B1. Foods rich in this vitamin are broad beans ( which can be grown twice a year ), sweet corn, hazelnuts and garlic. Garlic is easy to grow in a small space and will add that touch of 'je ne sais quoi' to your cooking! Sweetcorn and hazelnuts need a bit more space, but are simple to grow and are popular and nutritious family foods.

Vitamin B2:

Although vitamin B2 can be found in spinach and is easy to grow in the home garden, we could diversify a little here and go for different tastes. Mushrooms are a good source of B2 and can be grown in kit form indoors. Salsify is a vegetable that many of us have forgotten about. It used to be called the oyster vegetable and is a great root crop as long as you have a good depth of soil in the veggie patch.

Vitamin B6:

This is where we can hit the good old fashioned staples. Potatoes and onions are a good source of vitamin B6. If you worry about potatoes being a weight gaining food, a fresh potato straight from the ground doesn't need any additional butter, cheese or other toppings to make it tasty! Buy a specially designed potato barrel to save space - and digging! And onions, if stored well, will last for months.

Vitamin E:

Asparagus and raspberries have often been considered to be 'luxury' crops - this is probably because they are so expensive in the shops. They are both perfect for the home-grower. Both crops go on for years with very little attention. Asparagus is cropped during the 'hungry gap' - after the winter crops have finished and before the spring crops begin. And raspberries turn up in early summer usually.

Folate:

Folate isn't made by the body so must come from a good source. Luckily it is found in everyday veggies we can grow at home. Beetroot and green beans are good sources of folate. Another source, that we often don't realise, is parsley. Chop parsley finely and sprinkle over your food, rather than leave it on the side of the plate as an inedible garnish - it is really packed full of goodness.

Niacin:

Niacin (B3) is one of the most active vitamins in the body and breaks down fats and sugars. It is generally found in protein rich foods such as meat, fish and pulses. Courgettes (zucchini) are a good source of niacin and can crop right through the summer and autumn months. Peas are also high in niacin and can be started off early in the year. Peas are a good vegetable to grow in the home vegetable patch as they can replace nitrogen in the soil.

Pantothenic Acid (B5):

Another of the B vitamins, this one is needed to produce B12 which helps maintain cell structure in the blood. Avocados are a good source of B5 as well as broccoli and parsnips. Parsnips are best lefft in the ground until after the first frost so are a great early winter vegetable. They also store well. Try growing different types of broccoli; dwarf varieties are ideal for container growing.

Don't forget that all of these crops mentioned have other vitamins and minerals apart from the ones listed above, and the best way to feed yourself and your family is to grow an assortment of fruit and vegetables, and remember to eat them! Find out more in my book '' available everywhere!

Grill Store Dallas Tx Cooking The Perfect Steak- -Part 1

Once youve found your grill of choice from a grill store Dallas TX, how do you get the perfect steak? Thats a question that has eluded even the most dedicated grill warriors for a long time, but you can offer up a perfect steak to your guests just like any chef would.

In part one of our steak series, well show you some contrasting opinions on one facet of perfect steak preparation: should you bring the steak to room temperature or not?

Grill Store Dallas TX: Cooking Steak at Room Temperature? Even Professional Chefs Dont Agree

Many people grab the steak out of the fridge, shake some salt on it, and toss it on the grill. Others are careful to let their steaks come to room temperature---this can take up to 30 minutes---before they will place them on the grill. Which way is correct?

New York Magazine relied on David Walzogs expertise when giving steak advice. Walzog suggests taking the steaks out of the refrigerator half an hour before grilling. On the other hand, ABC News quoted chef Michael Lomonaco as saying that room temperature steaks cook far too quickly. "When you cook with a room temperature steak, it cooks much faster, said Lomonaco, according to ABC. Cooking with cold steaks allows you to control the temperature more, resulting in a perfectly cooked steak."

Patio Gas Grills Dallas: Find the Solution that Works for You

The end goal--a perfectly grilled steak--is the same, regardless of your feelings on the room temperature theory. Whether you bring the meat to room temperature or not, it's the temperature of the grill, not the temperature of the steak, that is most important when youre getting started.

Chef Walzog recommends letting your grill remain closed for up to five full minutes after the coals have reached a proper heat level (when the coals are almost white). Placing your steaks on the grill after it has had a chance to reach this level of heat results in beautifully charred exterior without over-cooking the inside.

So, go ahead and experiment with grilling your steaks--try both the "straight from the fridge" method and the "room temperature method," and see which one you prefer. And don't forget to have your grill at the perfect temperature.

Up next on the grill store Dallas TX blog, we will look at the myths (or truths) behind seasoning your steak in advance. If you need to find a propane grill Dallas (or even a classic charcoal grill), stop by Jacksons Home & Garden, or call us at (469) 789-5440. Wed love to help get your summer started!

Gas Logs In Dallas, Tx All About Gas Fireplaces

Gas Logs In Dallas, Tx All About Gas Fireplaces

With fall and winter fast approaching, its time to start thinking about how youre going to heat your home. With a gas fireplace fitted with gas logs in Dallas, TX, you can warm up any room in your home and create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere at the same time. You could choose a traditional, wood-burning fireplace; but once you learn about gas fireplaces and everything they offer, the choice to go with gas will be a simple one.

Why Gas Is Better Than Wood

The main reason you should choose a gas fireplace with gas logs in Dallas, TX is that it will heat your home more efficiently than wood. No matter what type of gas fireplace you choose an insert used to retrofit an existing firebox or a brand-new built-in youll get a room filled with a mix of warm air and radiant heat. With a wood-burning fireplace, much of your heat will be lost through the chimney. After heating efficiency, the reason to choose gas is convenience. With gas fireplaces, you can have heat and flames with the flick of a switch, with no tending and minimal cleanup. You wont have to trudge outside in the cold to get wood, worry about the fire hazard that sparks from a wood fire create or sweep and bag ashes constantly.

Gas Fireplace Choices

Your gas fireplace can be fueled by either natural gas or propane. Natural gas is slightly less expensive and produces a little more heat than propane. If there is no natural gas available in your area, choose propane. Your other option is a vented or a vent-free fireplace. Vented fireplaces vent the fumes from the logs to the outside while vent-free fireplaces discharge all of their heat and exhaust into the house. Once youve selected the type of fireplace you want, you should have technician certified by the National Fireplace Institute install it for you to ensure that it is safe and installed properly.

Where Gas Fireplaces Work Best

Gas fireplaces are the perfect choice for just about any room in your home, even rooms you hadnt thought to heat with a gas fire. Dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and even outdoor spaces can be outfitted with gas fireplaces to keep them warm in the winter time and if you choose vent-free, then you can put a fireplace anywhere without the restriction of outside access for venting.

Upgrades To Look For

These upgrades for your gas fireplace can make it work more efficiently and conveniently:

An electronic ignition that eliminates the need for a pilot light, which will save you money in fuel costs

A variable flame-height adjustment lets you set the height of the flames and the heat output with the turn of a dial

A built-in fan that that pulls indoor air behind the firebox and pumps warm air out, which can warm a room up quickly

A battery backup to ensure the fireplace will work and give you heat during a winter power outage

If youre ready to snuggle up in front of a warm fireplace this winter, come see us at Jacksons Home & Garden for a great selection of gas logs in Dallas, TX to outfit your gas fireplace. You can visit us online at www[dot]jacksonshg[dot]com or give us a call at (214) 350-9200 to find out more.

Gas Grills Dallas Tx How To Choose The Right Wood For Smoking

Gas Grills Dallas Tx How To Choose The Right Wood For Smoking

If theres one thing people who cook on gas grills Dallas TX know, its that nothing tastes better than grilled meat. They also know that if you cook meat with smoke, you get the added dimension of mouthwatering, smoky flavor and aroma. If youre getting ready to purchase your gas grill and you cant wait to smoke ribs, chicken or a Texas-sized brisket, here are some thing you need to know about choosing the right wood for smoking:

Grill Store Dallas TX: Wood-Smoked Flavors

Different types of wood impart subtle flavor differences to smoked meats, but the power of suggestion might just mean youll taste more sweetness in meat when someone tells you it was smoked using cherry or peach wood instead of hickory. Mostly, wood smells and tastes like wood; and wood-smoked meat will smell and taste like wood with a hint of other flavors and smells dancing around the edges.

Propane Grill Dallas: Theres A Range Of Intensity In Smoking Wood

Woods used for smoking range from mild to overpowering, not only in their specific flavors but in the amount of smokiness they lend to food. On the mild end of that range are the fruity woods like apple, cherry, peach and pear. These are a great choice for smoking all of your non-red meats like poultry, pork and fish. In the middle are woods like oak, hickory, maple and pecan, which can be used with pork and red meat. Hickory and oak are a great choice if you want to give your meat a dark, mahogany color that looks richer and tastier than the typical pink color ring that smoking imparts. At the strong end of the range is mesquite, which should only be used in moderation and with red meats.

Gas Grills Dallas TX: Its Okay To Mix And Match

You cant go into a grocery or hardware store in Texas without seeing bags of mesquite chunks for smoking. Because so many outdoor grills here are loaded with that particular hardwood when its time to smoke some meat, its a good thing to consider mixing and matching woods to mitigate the usually overpowering and sometimes unpleasant sensory explosion that is mesquite. Try combining mesquite with apple or hickory with cherry or oak with pear. Think of these different wood combinations like you would different spice combinations for your rubs- - eventually, the right one will result in your signature flavor.

No matter which wood you choose to smoke with, youll need a great grill. For the best selection of gas grills Dallas TX , visit Jacksons Home & Garden. You can also give us a call at (469) 789-5440.

Gardening All Year Round

Gardening All Year Round

Image source: http://www.grit.com/~/media/Images/GRT/Editorial/Articles/Online%20Articles/2016/01-01/All-Star-All-Sprout%20Salad%20Recipe/Year-Round%20Indoor%20Salad%20Gardening%20cover%20jpg.jpg

For some gardening is just a hobby to pass the extra time on their hands and yet to others, spending time in the garden is the perfect way to creatively use the space in and around their homes to achieve good decor, while at the same time achieving other benefits.

These can take various forms, with some people opting to use their garden to just grow flowers and shrubs or using rockery plants. Others use their garden space as a source for organic foods by planting vegetables, fruit bushes or trees.

Planning your planting and which plants to use can extend your growing season and ensure that you can have vegetables and some fruits to enjoy even outside the normal cropping season. This is where a good greenhouse or a polly-tunnel can be of great benefit.

A home garden gives you the opportunity to experiment, and in the process reap (if you pardon the pun) a host of benefits. Imagine the nice scent of roses wafting into the house with the breeze; imagine the melodious chirp of little songbirds or the sight of bees pollinating your flowers. Better yet, imagine the convenience and cost saving of picking your very own fresh fruit and vegetables for your meals!

There is no denying the joy gardening can bring to you and your guests alike. Take joy and pride as you share and tell your friends what you have just grown.

However, there are challenges like the changing of seasons and countless pests or diseases that can interfere with your garden from time to time. A common mistake among gardeners is choosing the wrong types of plants to ensure your garden flourishes all year long!

Plant choice-

This is a decision, that if you get it wrong, it can make or break your garden. Are the plants you are aiming for suited to the soil type in your garden? Are they adaptable to the weather around your house? Choose a range of plants that flower early, mid and late season, and the same with vegetables. Some vegetables benefit from a good frost, like brussel sprouts for example.

Garden type-

If you opt for a big or long garden design, you should be sure you have ample gardening time and skills to manage it otherwise it could have a negative effect when some parts of your garden don't get enough attention. This is why a bit of planning will help to spread you workload out over the year, having an even call on your time and energy levels! Make use of cold frames or greenhouses to work when the weather is against you. You can prepare so much in advance.

Space available-

Some plants and flowers will need proper spacing for them to thrive and grow to desired height. Others will thrive best if mixed with other plant species in the same garden.

Protection-

Gardens are susceptible to attacks by birds, rabbits, rodents and many other pests, all of which can irreparably damage your garden. Traps and pesticides come in handy when dealing with these intruders. Like any living organism, the plants that make up your garden are susceptible to diseases which you can prevent with the right products. Be sure you know the ones that are safe for your garden in particular.

These are just some of the considerations that you need to make to ensure the hard work you put into your garden does no go to waste. However even the most experienced gardener is at the risk of making costly errors in the course of their garden care activities.

Furniture Styles Past and Present

Furniture Styles Past and Present

History of furniture style is very interesting in US and European regions with different styles reigning supreme and popular among the public. It is also interesting to note that these styles sprouting in the minds of craftsmen in some Scandinavian states were transferred to the port cities of US to decorate homes or offices of aristocrats. In the same way, US styles got tremendous popularity in Europe peninsulas according to the annals of history.

The present breeds of furniture styles tread on the paths of historical trail blazers. Several popular styles in today's market are inspired by style gurus of past and imitating motifs of predecessors. Do you remember Jacobean, an English style that ruled the market during 1600-1690? Carvings specialties, lines drawings, and construction patterns introduced in medieval age can still be traced in designs in US. Arts of renaissance also left a deep impact on the contemporary styles and you can see traces of classical influences on master pieces and antics of today's world.

Until 1950, natural wooden furniture styles called Scandinavian contemporary overwhelmed the home and offices. Utilitarian furniture of early Americans, styles of William and Marry, magnificence of Art and Nouveau-different because of its curve linings and naturalistic patterns-, in fact, all facets of furniture before 50s were manifestations of astute craftsmanship and love of art put together by craftsmen into their styles.

Things have changed. Ability of producing magnum opus has been automated, and idea transfer digitized and monetized. Selling designs online has speeded up the process of style production, unlike past when a style had to catch dust in the store for want of buyers. People still like old brands that rather have engraved separate places in subconscious of brand loyalists. Have positions of Phyfe and Hepplewhite been outshone? Surely not. Obviously, versatilities of today are unmatchable and come along with contemporary dynamics. Above all, today's stylists or furniture showrooms take help of internet to engineer wonderful furniture designs: patio furniture, antimacassar, bed, bentwood, cabriole leg, cupboard, lectern, rustic style, tripod, throne, upholstered beds, so on and so forth. Knowing market needs and wants or gathering market intelligence has never been so easy after all.

Nowadays, furniture showrooms and designers use websites to build direct and rapid connections with the art lovers or customers. Some are selling designs online through ecommerce stores. You will find a lot of websites featuring homebuilding styles in US. Many of them deploy Prestashop themes to make their websites appealing and tapestry-like. The themes are specially developed for Prestashop, which is open-source ecommerce software. In open-source, you are free to bring changes in software, add and delete plug-ins and add-ons in accordance with your requirements. Like there are several themes you can find on the internet, there are also readymade websites to give easy and money-saving web solutions to those who do not have websites. Known as website templates, these designs are designed by professional designers. Furniture showroom owners can have furniture website templates that are specifically designed for furniture makers and sellers. You can find a wide range of furniture templates over the internet.

Four Spring Cleaning and Inspection Tips for Your Roof

Four Spring Cleaning and Inspection Tips for Your Roof

Spring, as you may have heard, is a time for renewal; but that means a renewal of everythingnot just the fun stuff we associate with the season, like the end of snow (kind of) and flowers in bloom. Spring also means the renewal of outdoor choresmore specifically, roof maintenance and inspection. Oh yeah, I can feel your excited vibes all the way through the internet!

Roof upkeep clearly isnt the most glamorous task, but if youre a homeowner, its incredibly vital to prevent long-term structural damage to your house brought on by moisture permeation and material erosion. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) recommends that homeowners inspect and clean their roofs at least twice a yearonce during the fall and spring.

Roof cleaning is an easy chore to neglect because of how involved it is, but doing so can severely hinder your homes normal functions, like water drainage. During the winter, leaves, twigs, and seeds accumulate in your gutters. If you dont regularly clear them, runoff water from snowmelt can overflowor worse, pool atop your roof and slowly erode your roofs protective materials. It isnt just seasonal, though; in fact, clogged gutters become even more dangerous during the summer since accrued dried foliage becomes a fire hazard when the weather gets hotter.

To help simplify your spring cleaning routine for your roof, weve teamed up with an expert roofing company to outline the most important tasks. Here are four tips to keep in mind while maintaining your roof:

1. Check for Signs of Moisture Permeation

There are several ways to check for unwanted moisture depositsinside and outside of your home. If youre inspecting your roofs exterior, look for fungus, algae, or rust, especially in spots where your roof is penetrated by fixtures like your chimney, skylights, or vents. Within your home, check for damp spots on your roof. If you see them, its almost certain moisture is seeping into your system.

2. Assess the Wear and Tear

A certain amount of depreciation is expected for any roof, regardless of its construction, since theyre constantly subjected to weathering effects, collision impacts, and abrasive contact from neighboring tree branches. Despite this reality, its crucial to understand how much wear and tear is reasonable based on how long youve had your roof and the quality of its construction materials. If you see loosening, cracked, porous, or discolored shingles, its likely the protective layers and granules of your roof are being eroded at too rapid of a rate, which may require immediate repair or replacement.

3. Dont Flush Your Gutters Before You Clear Them

Its tempting to try and streamline your gutter clearing by just rinsing out all those leaves and twigs with a garden hose, but doing so could end up compounding your drainage problems. Forcing all that foliage into a single downspout, unless its incredibly wide, can reduce your gutters draining capability and lead to more water permeating your homes foundation, which over time, can severely diminish its structural integrity.

4. Trim the Tree Branches Crowding Your Roof

This is a frustrating to do since its not exactly roof maintenance, but doing so can greatly impact your roofs longevity. Tree branches that are incredibly close to, or loom over, your roof can scratch its shingles and tear away protective granules. Over time, this constant abrasive contact can strip away your roof and greatly reduce its ability to safeguard you and your family from the elements.

Spring cleaning is often something we dread, especially when one of the checklist items requires climbing a ladder and inspecting your roof, but homeowners should welcome the opportunity to reinforce their roofings longevity and performance with a few, simple tasks. In the long run, your watchful eye may prevent you from having to replace or fully repair your system, which can be costly and even more of a time investment than your spring cleaning regiment.

Flowering Plants That Attract Butterflies

Flowering Plants That Attract Butterflies

In this article, I want to talk about plants,  but not all kinds. I want to mention some in particular that every outdoor lover enjoys. These plants bring about not only beauty but also a sincere meaning behind them. They come in different types and in an array colors. Im talking about the ones that attract butterflies to them. Truly, flowering plants and butterflies are made for each other.

In order to attract butterflies to your garden, you need to know exactly what they look for: nectar. Plant annual blooming plants amongst your perennial blooming plants to ensure continuous nectar throughout the year. Asters and Parsley are two of the perennials that provide food for the larval hosts. Remember that the more food you provide, the more species of butterfly that you will attract. Plant a garden that will provide continuous bloom, as butterflies are active from spring to fall.

Additionally, they like sunny open spaces, shelter from the wind, and freshwater. Specifically, they look for host plants to lay their eggs. Herbs are very attractive to butterflies because they provide a great environment for their eggs.

The following are some of many flowering plants that are attractive to butterflies:

Lilac: comes in seven different colors, but most of us are familiar with the lilac color. They are perfect for your garden due to their pleasant fragrance. Most lilacs which bloom in the northern states for 2 weeks in late may. They also bloom in early- mid- and late season. They can grow from 5 to 15 feet. They need full sun exposure.

Ironweed: is a late summer bloomer. Ironweed sends flower stalks up to 7 feet. It lasts well into the fall season. It provides nectar for the butterflies that mate in the later seasons. Some species can be used as edible leaf vegetables, such as Vernonia Calvoana, Vernonia Amygdalina, and Vernonia Colorata. Lastly, Ironweed is known to be a larval host for the American Painted Lady butterfly.

Parsley: is the favorite food of black swallowtail caterpillars. It looks beautiful as a border in your flower bed or spilling out of a hanging planter. Parsley is a familiar herb that provides an attractive decoration and a special flavor and nutritious value to dishes.

Coneflower: is easy to grow and provides masses of tall purple bloom. It is also known as a butterfly magnet for its wide variety of colors and prefer by gardeners for its beauty.

Butterfly weed: is a must have in every garden. It tolerates dry soil well, is low maintenance, and has a beautiful flower that can be used as green foliage in your garden when it is not bloom.

Sunflower: is alluring to butterflies, hummingbirds as well as songbirds. They are easy to grow as long as the soil is not soaked. They make an excellent cut flower.

Citrus: are a common place for butterflies to lay their eggs. Popular citrus plants for butterflies include lemons, limes, and oranges.

Dahlia: are big and beautiful shining plants in the garden.

Joe-pye weed: are clusters of pink-purple blooms with a fragrance similar to vanilla. They bloom well into the fall season. Joe-pye weed look great in a cultivated flower bed.The entire plant can be used, including the root and fresh flower, for herbal tea.

Pentas: are plants that have hairy green leaves and clusters of flowers. They come in many shades of white, red, pink, and purple. Pentas are attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.

With this information in mind, choose some of these beautiful plants to add to your garden. Itll be pleasant to sit down and look at all of your different flowering plants in bloom. Youll add some color and vibrancy to your garden decor. It will give you great pleasure to know that you contributed to the environment by providing shelter for butterflies while bringing beauty to your yard. Itll also make a great ambiance to bring friends and family. Dont forget that it is important to know which kinds of butterfly are native to your area when pickings your plants!

This article is for those people who are looking for a web hosting plan for their website. By understanding the importance and the factor to be considered before purchasing a web hosting will help you to become a long runner in the internet world.

Some Factor you Need to Consider Before Buying:

Price:
Specialities:
Space Limitation:
Technical Support:
Add-Ons:
Hardware:
Reviews:
Features Service:
Control Access:
Scope to Grow:
Agreement:

Price:

This will be the most considering factor for all services. However, never fall for cheap things in an instant, especially if you are developing a site to make money. If you are getting the same web hosting with a very low cost then may they would have negotiated from some other sources. Take a close look at service quality and feature, providing by the service provider then pricing.

Specialities:

Well, if you search for any Linux or Windows web hosting plan, then you can find a tons of plan with different specialities with a verity of price. Always choose a plan which is good for growing your business.

Space Limitation:

This will be another area of specification you must consider seriously. If you are planning for a normal site for some blog or personal website then limited space providing hosting will be fine. But if you are planning for a site deals with E-commerce, gaming or video uploading and downloading site then you must consider your hosting limitation, such as web space, RAM, Processing capacity, disc space, band-witch, E-mail space, language support and control panel type.

Take some time and find the facilities provided by the cheap hosting and whether it is meeting your website requirement or not?

Technical Support:

According to most of the people, this is the most important service factor you need for Web Hosting. In these day's hosting technologies is more advanced than the previous hosting technology, but still, if your site goes down for some unknown reason you must seek for technical support. So before you sign-up with any hosting provider make sure that the hosting provider is having a 24x7x365 support service, also you have to sure that they would have a support facility for the holidays also.

Add-ons:

This will make any hosting service special and worth of money. With the help of Add-Ons, you can give a magical touch to your site instantly with less effort. Most of the service providers are not providing this service. If you find this on your web hosting service with a low price then it will be a good indicator for your website and hosting.

Hardware:

You must do some research about this topic and ask your host providers about their hardware before you sing a bond. What kind of machine your hosting company using and are the machines are in new or old and where it is located. And your hosting company has to answer this question.

Reviews:

This one of the most powerful tools in user prospect. If you are selecting a company then you must check the online reviews about that company. You can find the online reputation and customer satisfaction level about that company.

E-mail Feature:

Almost all the hosting service providers are providing E-mail service with hosting, but still, you have to conform at the time of agreement and know brief about email space, no of accounts provides by the hoster.

Control Access:

If you take a hosting service, then you will get a control panel to control the back-end activity. And for shared hosting plan for any changes, you need to call the tech support team and they will change the necessary through FTP access. So You must know what kind of control panel does your service provider is using or else it may be an issue for the future.

Scope to Grow:

Finally, this will also an important factor you should look into. If you choose a plan according to your website need and later on if you want more powerful hosting due to some reason like increase website traffic, need more space for site, database for the website then your service provider must have the flexibility to migrate from one plan to another. Ensure that your service provider has VPS hosting service and Dedicated hosting option if you want in future.

Agreement:

Last but important that you should read carefully the bonds and licence agreement at least once. Find all the details about the company to ensure that you are hosting your site with a safe service provider.

Explaining the Oxygen Challenge for High Resistivity P-type Silicon Wafers

Explaining the Oxygen Challenge for High Resistivity P-type Silicon Wafers

The main challenge for higher resistivity silicon material is to control the behavior of interstitial oxygen involved during the growth of Si crystals. The concentration of interstitial oxygen is generally higher than 5E17at/cc and it can be converted beneficially into oxygen precipitates below the area to eliminate metallic contaminants away from active devices.

In P-type silicon wafers, thermal donors used to increase the resistivity of the Si wafer until the concentration of the thermal donor exceeds the P-type carrier concentration. At this point, the wafer will appear to be n-type. Calculations here are generally based on experimental data illustrating the influence of thermal donors. It is shown on a 50 ohm-cm P-type wafer resistivity for different interstitial oxygen levels.

Chemical and crystallographic defects are a reality of solar-grade silicon wafers and industrial production processes. As we all know Silicon is a commonly used semiconductor, which means that it has a high resistance to the electricity. However, the resistance is not as high as an insulator such as rubber. Pure silicon used to have electrical properties, which are manipulated by other elements and called dopants. These dopants  determine the type of silicon, positive or negative, and also change the resistivity of the silicon.

Dopants basically decide whether the final Si wafer will be a P-type wafer or a N-type wafer. Furthermore, the amount of dopant determines the final resistivity of the wafer. P-type silicon wafer are manufactured by using only one type of dopant, called as Boron, which you can also see in the periodic table as B. The volume of Boron present in the silicon wafer determines the resistivity. It is believed that the less Boron present in Si wafer means higher the resistivity. The relative abundance of P-type silicon wafers tends to keep the cost less than N-type wafers.

How to consider the cost of Si Wafers?

Each Si wafer must be particle-free. If there is a single particle on a polished wafer, it will adversely affect the functionality of the wafer. Due to this, calibration usually involves a traceable particles standard in order to determine the quality and cost of the fabric. There are different grades used to classify wafers. If wafers are larger than one hundred and fifty millimeters, then it usually is divided into test and mechanical test varieties.

However, Mechanical test varieties are used predominantly for equipment designed for testing, and have influence on structural and dimensional characteristics. A monitor wafer, also known as process test wafers is used in semiconductor fabrication and process monitoring. Particle silicon wafers are mainly designed to be used for measuring the actual particles. You must understand the difference between n and p-type silicon wafers to navigate the market and make price comparisons easier.

The Si wafer manufacturing process is highly complicated and tedious. It includes a number of sequential processes that are required to create an electronic circuit. As the demand of semiconductors will increase continuously in future, manufacturing companies to speed up the manufacturing process to handle the demand.

If you are involved in Si wafer manufacturing industry, then it is important for you to understand the complete manufacturing process. Just like with any products, quality and price vary, and the same applies on silicon wafers. It is highly advisable to learn about p-type silicon wafers in order to determine its resistivity and right usage. You can begin your research online, and find out numerous silicon wafer manufacturers in your area. Contact multiple manufacturers to get the best quote available for your work and take decision accordingly.

Travelling to Boston this Autumn? Its the best time of year to head to New England, when the leaves are changing colors, the street festivals are in full swing and fashion week is about to start. Before you start planning your itinerary for your time in Boston.

Heres everything you cant miss when visiting Boston this Autumn.

Boston Fashion Week

This week-long event was founded in 1995 and has remained a non-profit since inception. It brings together both international and local talent, helping them showcase their work to buyers, the public, celebrities and fashion aficionados. Boston Fashion Week continues to be aimed at helping local designers shine on a bigger platform. The public can buy tickets online although some shows and events are through invitation only. Within the Boston Fashion Week is an event called The Tent which aims to showcase local talent grow their business.

Boston Book festival

Taking place towards the end of October, this nonprofit event hopes to celebrate authors from different genres and encourage people to read more. This years author lineup includes Pulitzer prize winner Maureen Dowd along with Dennis Lehane, Tom Perrotta, Jacqueline Woodson, E. Lockhart, M.T. Anderson and Dani Shapiro, to name just a few. There is usually a live music stage and lots of free activities that visitors to the festival can take part in. Check out the writing workshops, open mic gatherings and encourage your children to also take part in activities aimed specifically at them.

Boston Common

Boston is known to have some of the best views in the entire country during fall. Some great places to walk through to get a glimpse of the leaves changing color include the Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Pond or Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Another fantastic place from which to see the riot of colors is Boston Common. This is a great location from which to observe the changing colors of trees. This 50-acre park is not only massive, but also happens to be the oldest city park in the United States.

Head to the common to see several concerts, softball games, ice skating events, protests and more that take place here each year. Martin Luther King Jr. once gave a speech here and the common was declared a national historic landmark in 1987. The common lies toward the southern end of the famous Boston Freedom Trail. Elms can be easily spotted in the Common, including the two most famous elms at the entrance to the common called the Shaw Memorial Elms.

Pumpkin Picking

If you happen to visit Boston just in time for Halloween, why not head to a local farm and go Pumpkin picking. This is a particularly good idea for anyone with children. Once youve picked your pumpkin, try your hand at carving them too. If you enjoy pumpkins in this season, then the Boston Common Frog pond is filled with glowing Pumpkin lanterns for one night every Halloween and is worth checking out.

Charles Regatta

To see the best in the world of rowing, this is the event to go to. Some of the worlds best rowing teams compete in this competition held annually on the Charles River. The best view can be found in the races halfway point. Since the competition runs the entire day, if you want to try something different, why not go to the nearby Weld exhibition which sells Regatta merchandise. Best Places To Watch The Head Of The Charles Regatta. There's a good reason the BU, River Street, Western Avenue, Weeks Footbridge, Larz Anderson and Eliot bridges are going to be mobbed with spectators. The course is 3 miles (4,800 meters) long and stretches from the start at Boston University's DeWolfe Boathouse near the Charles River Basin to the finish just after the Eliot Bridge and before Northeastern University's Henderson Boathouse.

Essence of Staff in corporate event management

Essence of Staff in corporate event management

Ever wondered, what is the most important thing that makes sure that the proposed event goes on as smoothly as desired? It is the staff that is deployed with their own set of responsibilities. The type of staff deputed can turn your event into a sweet dream to remember or a nightmare that you will not be able to forget for a long time. Despite investing heavily into venue, decor, food etc, it ultimately drills down to the people who perform their duties in front of the attendees.

Staffing in event planning is a huge project in itself. The number of staff to be employed depends on the type of the event being conducted. Few are permanent staff of the event management company but few are hired on temporary basis. This totally depend on the number of guests anticipated, the place where it is being conducted and of course the event type organised.

Staffing for event includes individuals like drivers, information desk assistants, food servers, parking attendants, etc. Some additional staff may be required for setting up the tables, making seating-arrangements, decorating or assisting the team of decorators. Some staffs are to manage the positions and directions of other staff if the event is organized at a big place and some at the gate to welcome the guests. If the event involves the ticket sales, extra staff for monitoring the cash generated through sales of tickets. Staff at different booths, help in attending nurseries, assisting the guests speakers to perform.

If the event management company has arrangements with caterers they might not require much of staffing but if the catering services are also a part of their contract then this might require lot of staffing right from the cook to the servers everybody. For smallest of arrangements a company needs employees to handle their respective services with great effectiveness.

At times if the company has something different or out of the way to show, they require extra team for that. Stage performers have entirely separate team like for magicians, for dance performances, for musicians etc. but a group of people are needed to manage the stage events apart from other arrangements.

Staffing for an event is as diverse as the event itself and requires lot of multiple tasking too. Each staff hired or permanent need to know the entire layout of the event, the food / drinks arrangement counters, emergency exits, etc. Any guest may ask for anything at the event and it becomes important for each staff to know about it. At times the company may fill in their employees as volunteers.

The roles of staff rely on the event and the variety of services needed to provide a pleasant experience for attendees. How good the event could be is all dependent on the service web arranged by the event company. It's not an easy task to arrange everything smoothly unless a professional team of event organizers are looped in.

Adequate staffing is very important to have a successful event. To handle all the details from arriving of the guests to after party clean ups, proper staffing will help reduce the problems caused by lack of adequate personnel.

In event management, there are many services involved for which few vendors are contracted in order to provide services such as caterers, furniture rental, decorators & florists, etc.. In addition to that the venue being rented for the event also has designated executives to help and also oversee the entire operations. Though they might not participate deeply but yes they help at certain level of supervision of the entire event. They are also very good in providing certain directions since their venue holds so many different events on regular basis throughout the year. Some of these executives come as a part of standard contract for hiring venues and at time they come at additional costs which are optional anyways.

Enhance Your Garden With Garden Paving Slabs

Enhance Your Garden With Garden Paving Slabs

Garden paving slabs can add a special touch to your yard or garden and have many different uses. These can be done by professionals or you can make it into a do it yourself project; the latter may take up quiet a bit of time and work.

These make for wonderful boarders for flower beds and held distinguish the flower bed lines. This means there is less chance of mowing down flowers you have spent a lot of time working on simply because they were not seen in time. Used as boarders they also give people a clear view of where your flower bed starts and prevents them from walking on your flowers.

Garden paving slabs can also be used to make walkways. Used as walkways, you and your guests can go into the garden and not track dirt back into your home. It also prevents having to walk in mud if it has been raining recently. These slabs are also very attractive when done correctly and add wonderful detail to your home garden.

To do this yourself you have two options. One is to set the forms and actually pour the concrete yourself. The other is to buy premade slabs. If you are going to do this yourself I would highly recommend the premade slabs.

If you pour the concrete then you will need to set forms and measure plus get the right consistency for the concrete itself. All of this is a lot of very hard work and takes time and is very hard to undo if you don't like the results.

They have very nice premade slabs and these are fairly easy to install yourself. These come in different colors, textures, shapes, and sizes. What ever you are looking for you can find it in premade slabs and it will make you life a lot easier. You can either dig each spot you want to place a slab in our just lay them on top of the ground and let the settle naturally.

You can also use these to create a patio for you garden area. One garden I saw had a small patio as the center point with flower beds lined with garden slabs as accents and around the edges. You can create virtually any look you want with these for your yard or garden.

A professional job will cost you a lot more and you don't get the same sense of personal satisfaction that you will when you have done it yourself. The only real plus in having then garden paving slabs laid professionally is that it saves you time and work, which may be best if you are not able to lift or simply can't find the time.

No matter what you use them for, these slabs are sure to add something special to any yard or garden. You may find you have more uses for them than you thought possible. This is a great project for you to work on with a partner and it may even add value to your home if you decide to sell.

Eco Friendly Garden Products

Eco Friendly Garden Products

Today many families maintain a home garden as prices of produce increase, and growing concerns continue to rise regarding the safety of our food supply. Organic gardening and eco-friendly gardening products have been evolving for years and these products are now becoming very popular and relevant in the market place. Natural Foods Coop being one example.

At home, safety is number one, so naturally we are going to want to protect our children and pets from dangerous chemicals that man-made herbicides and pesticides consist of. Just to name just a few there is Benzonic Acid, Arsenical, Bipyridylium, Dinitroniline, Phenoxy Acid and Siduron.

These are designed to be sprayed directly on foliage or cling to the surrounding soil and are dangerous to the environment and us as well. Particularly when used in larger quantities. Organic herbicides are natural substances such as vinegar, citrus oil, and corn gluten meal. Much friendlier healthy garden alternatives don't you think.

What sets an eco-friendly garden apart would be the use of mulches, manures, composts, vermicomposting and mineral supplements as fertilizers to build a favorable soil. Compost is rich in nutrients and is good for the land in many different ways.

It acts as a fertilizer (soil conditioner) and even as a natural pesticide for soil. Vermicomposting is the result of composting using various types of worms. All thats left over is nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and lower levels of contaminants.

Rain barrels or rainwater tanks can be used to capture or collect run-off water or rainwater and then maintain it for later use. Some of the meaningful uses include but are not limited to agriculture, gardens, flushing toilets, washing machines, washing cars, and if properly cared for and filtered, used as drinking water. This in turn aids in self sustainability and lessons the strain on water mains. Awesome!

There are several products available to repel squirrels and other critters and keep your garden safe for your children and animals. One example isn't any ingredient but an audio device designed to blast out high frequency pulses which scare "Rocky" and small varmints away.

Then there is Fox urine, which squirrels don't like, but your nose probably wont enjoy either. A safe natural alternative to commercial repellents is cayenne pepper which will not harm your dogs.

As you can see not only does gardening provide a stress relieving activity but it also helps in reducing our carbon footprint, if the proper products and techniques are used. It also contributes to self-sufficiency, which in my opinion, makes you a very responsible and admirable addition to your community.

Studies have linked chemical pesticides to such diseases as Breast cancer, Prostate cancer, Infertility, Parkinson's, Birth defects and more. So consider organic gardening products over conventional ones in your garden, and make a safe and positive impact on your family and our world.

Easy Ways To Make Your Kids Feel Independent And In Control

Easy Ways To Make Your Kids Feel Independent And In Control

It is natural for parents to get overprotective and keep their kids under tight supervision just to make sure that they dont get injured or hurt themselves in some way. More often than not, they jump in to save their little ones at the first chance of trouble instead of letting the child solve the problem on his own and learning to handle different issues. Parents leap to catch their child before falling even while exploring the modular playground equipment. While to parents it might come as a duty they owe to their kids, for children it can have several bad effects on their development as well as self-confidence.

In general children are very much dependent on their parents for love and guidance in their young age as well as a sense of protection and affection in the company of parents. However, as they grow up they need to be made feel more independent and in control of their own lives so they not only learn to deal with life as it comes but also get to build self-confidence as well as a sense of responsibility. Not allowing children this space does exactly the opposite and make them grow up to be dependent and scared of taking things on their own. Their starting learning places are the playground structures which is also the place where most of the unnecessary intervention by parents is seen.

It is far better to make your child feel self-reliant and accountable as they grow up. It can be a hard task for parents to see their kids in difficulty and not jump right in to help them, but smart parents realize that it is an essential part of their childrens proper growth and development. Here are some tips to help parents get over their fear of letting their child be and instead nurturing and bringing him up in the best manner possible.

Your Kids Will Do What They See Not What They Are Told

It is imperative for parents to set an example of behavior for their children. DO not forget that irrespective of how moral or ideological talk you have with them, what you do will have a more intense and long lasting impact on their behavior. SO instead of trying to help them in solving matters, show them how you solve your own problems. Be patient and mindful and they will follow suit.

If You Must Help Then Help In Finding Opportunities

If by any means you feel that you are not doing enough for your child by staying on the sidelines when he is in trouble, make up for that by finding opportunities for them to learn. Observe your little ones, find out their interests and choose activities that your kids can take up to improve their social and mental abilities. Being part of a team of kids who brush their teeth, fold their shirts and clean up after them would help the child learn much faster than if he is simply told to do so by his parents. Optimizing environment also includes making sure that the kids are not being exposed to any harmful material like electric wires or corrosive chemicals.

Consult Them And Appreciate Their Thoughts

The easiest way to teach children something is to make it interesting for them and let them take credit for the output. Ask their help in household matters or consult them with a similar problem that you think they might come across themselves. Appreciate their opinion and discuss your opinions which you want them to consider too. Make the conversation meaningful and allow your child to feel as if he has contributed towards the solution of the problem.

Did you know you can adjust your home thermostat from just about anywhere? If you are a do-it-yourselfer you can set up an affordable home automation system including home heating (and cooling) controls.

Here's what you need for long-distance remote thermostat control via iPhone:--

Internet service and a router
a programmable smart thermostat linked to your smart home automation system
an iPhone home automation app that is compatible with your smart thermostat and other components of your system
a modular home automation controller module that will relay your commands to your thermostat

a couple of plug-in remote lamp control modules. I think it's a good idea to include remote lamp control in your initial setup.

Here's how to control your thermostat from your iPhone:--

Install the smart thermostat according to instructions that came with your unit
Now install the controller -- find a wall outlet near your Internet service router. Connect the controller to the router using an Ethernet cable. Then plug the controller into the wall outlet.
I suggest adding remote lighting control in setting up your smart home automation system. You'll need a plug-in remote lamp control module for each lamp you want to control.
Download a iPhone home automation app.
Synch and link all your components together following instructions.

How long-distance remote thermostat control via iPhone works:--

Let's say you are driving home from a vacation retreat. Before you left home you set your home thermostat down to an energy-and-money-saving temperature. Now you want to reset the temperature up to your comfort level so your home is warm and inviting as you arrive. You grab your iPhone and bring up your home automation app. With a few touchstrokes you reset the thermostat.

Your command arrives home over the Internet and goes to your controller. The controller sends it out throughout your home. If you installed Insteon automation components, your commands are broadcast both wirelessly and over the existing power wiring in your house. This dual-mesh approach increases the reliability and flexibility or your system.

Your thermostat receives your commands and responds accordingly, and your home warms up for your arrival.

In addition to remote lighting control via Internet, you can control your outdoor garden fountain, outdoor post lamp, and garden lighting. You can set up a remote freeze alarm, control your window air conditioner, hot water heater, and whole house fan. How about remote home theater operation, remote curtain control, and much more -- all from your iPhone.

Easy home automation makes home living more convenient, safer and gives you more control over household tasks. And it's fun.

Smart Home Automation

If you are like a lot of folks these days, you probably have a laptop computer. It is your constant companion on trips, on holidays or on vacations. Now you can use your computer to remotely turn your porch lamp on and off, or to check the status of your garage door, or any number of tasks around your home.

Remote lighting control for your post lamp

Let's say your post lamp is located near the sidewalk and the walkway to your front door. It provides a welcoming glow to the entrance of your home. It makes your home safer by lighting the sidewalk and steps. Some folks leave it on all the time; others use a light sensing switch to automatically turn it on and off. Suppose you are working late and don't want to come home to a dark house. You want to check the on/off status of your post lamp; and if it is off for some reason, switch it on.

What you need for remote lighting control

You need to make your post lamp a "smart post lamp." Find the wall switch that controls the post lamp. Replace it with smart switch module. You can still turn it on and off by pushing the switch. But now you can also send a remote command to control the switch. You need a "controller" module that will send your command to your smart switch. If you already have a home wireless network and Internet service, find a wall outlet near your router. Connect the router to the controller using an Ethernet cable. Plug the controller module into the wall outlet and you're ready to go.

Bring up your home automation application on your laptop. Then instruct the controller to turn on your post lamp. Your "smart switch" that controls the post lamp "reads" the signal and turns the lamp on. If you are using Insteon home automation, the command from the controller is sent over the electrical wiring in your house and simulaneously is sent out wirelessly. This "dual mesh" Insteon automation setup is both flexible and reliable. It is not expensive. You can also control the plug-in lamps in your living room or porch by adding compatible modules.

Best of all, your system is affordable and modular. Add comatible automation modules as you are ready.

Easy home automation for your outside garden lights

A landscaped home garden of flowers, trees, shrubs, walkways and garden art gives great pleasure to millions of people. There's a sense of beauty and tranquility in a garden -- the pleasant scents of plants and flowers, the sounds of birds and breezes, the sensation and feel of the earth as you work with your hands in the soil.

Now it's easier than ever to enjoy your garden in the after the sun goes down -- by creative outdoor lighting. Whether you do the work yourself or hire a professional outdoor lighting designer and installer, you can create outdoor night scenes for you and your guests to enjoy from your patio.

And you can control after-dark scenes with your smartphone. setup. You'll need Internet service with a home network router. Both are already in use in many homes.

Low voltage outside garden lights can be installed by the do-it-yourselfer

Compared to using 120 volts, a 12-volt outdoor lighting system uses less power; 12-volt cables can be placed in shallow trenches and backfilled; and lamps are available in many styles and decors.

Here's what you need: a transformer to produce the required 12 volts, sufficient cable to connect the transformer with the lamps, the lamps, and some way to control the lights.

Packages are available that include most everything you need -- transformer, cable and lamps. However, creative do-it-yourselfers may be more satisfied by custom planning their own lighting system, selecting the components and installing them themselves.

Develop a plan for your lighting. What are the focal points in the your garden that could be lighted by a soft spot or spread light -- casting shadows just where you want them for highlighting key features. This could be a small statue, a small cluster of plants, a fountain. Are there walkways that could be illuminated by a soft downward spread light? You could uplight selected trees, and cast a soft spread light over a particularly attractive row of background plants. Be creative -- you'll enjoy the result.

Once you've planned your outdoor lighting setup, purchased your components, it's time to install. Place the transformer near on or near an outdoor wall outlet that is GFCI-protected, but don't plug it in yet. Connect the cable to the transformer .Place the lamps on the ground where shown on your plan. Then run the cable on the ground so that each lamp can be easily connected. Make the lamp connections following directions. Before you bury the cable, test to make sure everything works as your envisioned. Then bury the cable.

Control your outside garden lights using easy home automation

Here's how it's done. Mount an Insteon inside-on/off-switch module near the 12-volt transformer. Insert the transformer plug into the outlet on the Insteon module, and then plug the module into the wall outlet. Inside your home near your router, find a wall outlet. Connect the controller to your router with an Ethernet cable. Finally, plug the controller into the wall outlet.

You can buy an affordable home automation Insteon starter kit that includes the controller and plug-in lamp switch modules. By Installing additional Insteon dual band lamp modules you will make your system more robust and flexible.

After some synching and linking the components together, you're ready to go.

Grab your smartphone. With a few touchstrokes, call up your easy home automation controller. Instruct the controller to send a signal to the Insteon on/off switch controlling the outside garden lights. Simple!

Duvets - Things You Need to Know Before You Buy

Duvets - Things You Need to Know Before You Buy

First, be certain what size of duvet you want. Duvets are sized according to the bed that they are intended to fit -- single, double, king, or super king. Purchasing a duvet one size larger than the bed you have may be helpful if you and your bedmate tend to fight over the blankets.

Before purchasing a duvet, remember to check its tog rating. The "tog" is a measure of thermal resistance -- that is, how hard it is for heat to escape through the duvet. A 3.0 - 4.5 tog rating is usually sufficient for summer. For spring and autumn, a rating of 7.0 to 10.5 will keep you warm. In winter, you will probably prefer a duvet with a tog rating of 12.0 to 13.5. If you are buying a duvet for a child, go for a lighter tog rating -- children are more likely than adults to find a high-tog duvet uncomfortably warm. If you want to be prepared for anything, look into duo duvet sets. These include both a low-tog and a medium-tog duvet, which can be joined together to create a high-tog winter duvet. Some manufacturers also offer duvets that have different tog ratings in each half, for the benefit of partners who feel the cold unequally.

The exterior of the duvet can be of several different fabrics, but polyester, polyester/cotton blend, silk, pure cotton, and polypropylene are the most common. As with other bedclothing, natural fabrics tend to be the most comfortable and luxurious. Polyester/cotton blend strikes a good balance of comfort and durability.
You should also consider whether you want a natural filling (i.e. duck or goose down or silk) or a synthetic filling. Each has its own pros and cons. Natural-filled duvets are lighter in weight and tend to last longer than synthetic-filled ones -- as much as 30 years as compared to 10 years for synthetic fill. As against that, natural duvets cannot be washed at home, since the filling must be dried completely, which is difficult to achieve with a home dryer. Some people also have allergic reactions to the feathers in natural fill.

Synthetic-filled duvets are, as mentioned above, heavier and have a shorter lifespan. However, you can wash them at home if your machine is large enough, and their filling is hypoallergenic.

Once you have purchased your duvets, consider whether you also want to buy duvet covers to protect them. While this does add to the weight and expense, duvet covers also help to extend your duvets' lifespan. If you have chosen natural fill, duvet covers are strongly recommended, in order to reduce the frequency with which you have to wash the duvet itself. Duvet covers can also be used, with the duvet removed, as light blankets in the summer.

Dry Lip Causes & Dry Lip Treatments

Are you tensed for your dry lips? Do you know dry lips cut off your facial cuteness? There have some common questions about this problem. In this article, some common questions are illustrated.

What causes dry lips?

If you take too little liquid, the lips dry within a short time. The fluid content of the body can drop if too little water enters the organism for a long time. As a result, dry lips develop, which can soon become brittle and cracked. Then the cracks burst and burn.

Other causes of lipid dryness include lack of vitamins and minerals. Also, infectious diseases can cause dry and chapped lips. You can easily get rid severe chapped lips by applying natural moisture on lips.

Cold and heat make lips dry:

A lot of people suffer from frigidity in summer as well as in winter. The skin on the lips is much more weather-sensitive than other body parts. Thus frigid and warm external temperatures affect the skin.

In the summer, the body loses a lot of fluid through sweating. If the liquid content restoration is not fast enough, the skin dries quickly. So, excessive sun exposure can cause sands on the lips, causing them to become cracked and painful. Even longer stays in the salt water make the lips wrinkled and evade the skin's moisture. In the winter, the temperature difference between indoor & outdoor dries lips.

Can creams and greasy lip care sticks protect the lips?

There are countless cosmetic products to protect against lipid dryness. Unfortunately, most creams and lipsticks only provide a short-term remedy. Also, the body can be allergic to certain products and cause dry, burning and chapped lips.

Can dry lips be treated with hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid can help dry lips become soft and supple again. Also, it accelerates the healing process of cracked lips. Hyaluronic acid improves the structure of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is used to stimulate the regeneration of dry lips. It will provide soft, delicate lips with natural fullness. Thin hyaluronic acid is perfect for women and men who wish to give their lips a younger and supple look.

How can you get your soft lips and prevent the dryness?

Since the lip skin is very sensitive, it reacts, particularly to sunlight and cold. The skin on the lips is very light. It has neither sebum nor sweat glands, so it does not get a protective fat layer and moisture. Thus, the lips have no protective mechanism to protect them from the sun and cold.

Home Remedies to Combat Dry Lip:

There are several remedies available at home to combat this condition:

Drink lots of water and stay hydrated. Moisturizing is the best way to keep your lips moist and your skin smooth.
Apply petroleum jelly or some lip balm to moisten lips.
If you apply butter or margarine to the lips, you will keep them oiled and shiny, but you will also relieve the pain that cracks cause.
Another good remedy is to use cream of milk because it eliminates the dead cells of the lips, makes them more smooth and smooth.
Aloe Vera gel is very effective for any skin problem. Simply apply on the lips to counteract dryness and cracks.
As vitamin deficiency is one of the causes of dry lips, strengthen your daily diet with foods containing high doses of vitamins, especially A, B and C.
To soften the lips nothing better than a glycerin application. Just put a few drops of honey in the glycerin and apply before bed.
Cucumber slices are also very useful in these cases. Scrape them against dry, cracked lips and end up curing them.
Put some castor oil on your lips, it is a very effective method to treat them.
Collect some rose petals and mix them with glycerin. Apply this paste over the lips to keep its color and moisture balanced.

We hope now you can easily manage your dry lips. So, which method you are going to apply on your lip?

Dishwashers - Things You Need to Know Before You Buy

Dishwashers - Things You Need to Know Before You Buy

Image source: http://www.pattensmichiganmonuments.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/5-things-you-need-to-know-before-buying-a-headstone-Copy.jpg

The very first step in any major purchase is to determine your budget, how much you can and are willing to spend. This will help you to narrow down the features that are most important to you, differentiating between what you may want and what you actually need. This way you will be able to purchase the dishwasher that is the best value for your money.

In the major appliance market, more money usually equals more bells and whistles, but these are often unnecessary features that are used to simply mark up the price. So as you begin looking, shop around and ask questions.

Before You Shop:

Determine what size dishwasher will fit in the kitchen space that you currently have. If your kitchen is not equipped for a dishwasher, then a compact, portable dishwasher may be what you need unless you are willing to spend the money to hire a contractor and invest in some kitchen remodeling.

Energy Efficiency:

As society becomes more energy conscious, manufacturers are trying to make dishwashers that use less water and energy. You will need to consider how much pre-washing you are willing to do. If you are diligent to rinse your dishes immediately then a lower energy-consuming dishwasher will likely do the job. However, if your dishes sit for a while and get crusted over, they will require a tougher wash which may not be what the more energy-efficient models offer. Typically, if you scrape off food immediately and run dishes through the dishwasher right away then that should be enough. Too much pre-rinsing and pre-washing actually wastes water in the long run.

Fancy Features:

For a lower price, you can get an effective dishwasher, but it will likely be much noisier. If the noise level is not a concern for you then you can cut costs this way.

If you often cook for guests or if you have a large family, being able to change the layout of your dishwasher can be a useful feature. Look for a dishwasher with adjustable racks and cutlery holders.

A dirt sensor can adjust the water use and cycle length depending on the load but the more computerised your appliance, the more likely and difficult the repairs. Similarly, a rinse/hold cycle allows you to rinse dirty dishes when you don't have a full load to run through.

Dishwashers typically have three cycles, but many newer and higher-end dishwashers have a plethora of cycle options depending on the types of dishes you will be washing. Most people will find the basic dishwasher cycles to be adequate. For example, a dishwasher may have an option for washing crystal but if you feel more comfortable hand washing your crystal then this would be an unnecessary feature.

Do Your Homework:

Read reviews of various brands before you shop. Ask questions and take time to consider your needs before you shop.

Curly Weeping Willow

Curly Weeping Willow

A curly willow tree (Latin name Salix Matsudana Tortuosa) and a weeping willow tree are both in the willow family. While a weeping one has limbs that grow down toward the ground, the curly one has branches that grow in a curling, spiraling form. Other popular names for the curly variety are the corkscrew, rattlesnake, dragon's claw, Peking and hankow willows.

In addition to the curling and spiraling limbs, the curly willow also has curly leaves. The leaves of this deciduous tree are long and narrow with serrated edges; a bright green color on top and a grayish green color on the underside. The flowers, called catkins, which are long and pendulous - somewhat like a fluffy cat's tail - form in April or May, usually before the leave emerge. Fall foliage is typically bright yellow.

The curly willow is a fast growing tree. Like most fast growing trees, it has a rather short lifespan. Also, like most fast growing trees, the wood is somewhat weak and prone to breaking during storms. There are some cultivars that have been developed that are studier than others. The tree is beautiful to behold in all seasons, but is of particular interest in the fall and winter once the leaves have dropped. The contorted and twisted limbs are quite eye catching against a backdrop of evergreens, or against the blue sky, or when covered with a layer of snow.

While the curly willow is a wonderful specimen tree, it is also used as a bonsai plant. The branches are used in live flower bouquets and arrangements. These can be planted in the yard and will easily grow into a new tree. The dried branches and twigs are also used in arrangements and are often displayed by themselves in a vase. You can usually find them sold in bunches where ever dried flowers are sold.

Some homeowners have enjoyed many years with their willow trees, while others seem to have nothing but problems. As mentioned before, they can easily break due to wind or ice. Disease and pests pose other problems for it. Canker, leaf blight, powdery mildew are diseases you need to watch out for. Aphids, scale, lacebugs, gypsy moths and borers are just some of the pests that can prove deadly to it. It has a shallow root system that can invade plumbing and crumble driveways. By choosing the strongest cultivar, carefully choosing a spot for planting and a little TLC, the curly willow can be a wonderful tree to have in your home garden.
